Alaska Commercial Company traveled to Savoonga yesterday to distribute food boxes to all 158 households in the community, providing essential groceries to families in remote Alaska. Thanks to the Food Security Grant Program, the State of Alaska awarded $1.5 million to food banks and non-profits in an effort to improve food security throughout the state. This funding allowed each household in Savoonga to receive 100 pounds of food, including 70 pounds of dry grocery items and 30 pounds of frozen meat from AC.
Executives Kyle Hill, President; Walt Pickett, General Manager; and Margot Wiegele, Manager of Store Development, along with local residents Odie and Jess, personally delivered the frozen meat packages to families throughout the community. The additional food boxes containing 70 pounds of dry grocery items were sent via bypass mail and will be distributed this upcoming weekend.
AC extends its gratitude to organizers Cerene and Kacy from the Native Village of Savoonga for leading this incredible initiative. Their dedication helps ensure that rural Alaskans continue to have access to fresh, nutritious food.
Alaska Commercial Company is proud to support programs that strengthen food security and appreciates the opportunity to partner with communities like Savoonga in this meaningful effort.
