The AC recruitment team recently traveled to Alakanuk to participate in the 2026 Career Fair, marking our second year in attendance. Located just 30 minutes from our AC Emmonak Store, the trip provided an opportunity to engage with students from across the region and strengthen community relationships.
Travel to Alakanuk was delayed due to weather, but the team arrived to a warm welcome. The school staff provided vendors with cots and sleeping bags for their overnight accommodations in the classrooms and prepared local favorites including moose and salmon empanadas, chili and cornbread, homemade pizzas, fried rice, and noodle dishes.
During the visit, the school was also celebrating Cultural Week. Each classroom featured hands-on learning experiences such as basket weaving, traditional beading, kuspuk making, and net crafting. Students even prepared akutaq to share with visitors.

The Career Fair was a full-day event that brought together students from Alakanuk and nearby communities including Mountain Village, Pilot Station, Emmonak, Marshall, and Nunam Iqua. Middle and high school students spent the day exploring different career paths and learning about opportunities available after graduation. Younger students were invited to join later in the day to learn and play in the school gymnasium.
From ice fishing to vendor versus student basketball games, the event was a great experience for everyone involved. AC would like to thank Essie, Kenya, Kathy, Daniel, and the entire school cafeteria team for organizing such a meaningful event and welcoming our team into the community.

AC remains committed to supporting youth across our communities and providing opportunities that help guide the next generation as they prepare for life after high school.
