In July, 2021, Alaska Commercial Company broke ground on its 34th store, in Gambell, Alaska. This store was built from the ground up and we hired local crew members who worked hard to build the new AC Gambell Store.
AC brought in seasoned managers, Dave and Heather Harvey, to be the new management team at the AC Gambell Store. They moved to Gambell from St. Michael where Dave was the store manager at AC’s St. Michael Store. We appreciate how the Gambell community welcomed the Harveys with open arms.
There are so many logistics that go into building an AC store. After the exterior of the new AC Gambell Store was built, we began building out the interior and adding fixtures to the store.
Then, our cargo planes arrived in Gambell loaded with thousands of products to stock our new AC store with a great selection of groceries, fresh foods and general merchandise!
Next, we hired and trained local Gambell residents to staff the store and were overwhelmed with the community support we received.
AC celebrated the grand opening of the new store on January 29, 2022. The final week before it opened was a busy week for a lot of people who worked very long days.
“Thank you to everyone who has played a role in getting AC Gambell built, stocked and ready to open,” said AC President Kyle Hill. “It truly was a team effort.”
“But most of all, we want to thank the Gambell community for their enthusiastic support of our new store,” Hill added.
