Aniak Store & Community
Aniak, located along the Kuskokwim River, has long been a Yup’ik settlement central to trade and subsistence living. The area’s name translates to “the place where it comes out” in Yup’ik, referencing the vital waterways used for fishing and transportation. Salmon fishing remains essential to the community’s lifestyle and economy, alongside big game hunting, which attracts enthusiasts for moose, bear, and caribou. The community is accessible via its airstrip, a critical link to other remote Alaskan villages. Aniak’s scenic surroundings are ideal for boating and wildlife viewing.
