AC Ships Free Potatoes to Gambell

The University of Alaska Mat-Su gave Gambell native Ashley Apangalook a grant to study and grow potatoes. As part of her project, she reached out to Alaska Commercial Company to tell us that she wanted to donate over 400 pounds of potatoes to the Gambell community.

She asked if we would ship them to Gambell and distribute them through our store. Of course, we agreed. AC is committed to giving back to the communities where our stores are located. Since we were preparing to open a new store in Gambell, this partnership was a good fit with corporate values.

The potatoes were delivered to AC’s warehouse in Anchorage and then packed in 2-4 lb. bags to be shipped to our AC Gambell store. When the potatoes arrived in Gambell, we notified the community so that each family could stop by the store and to get a free bag of potatoes.

According to Ashley Apangalook, “I am so excited and thankful for AC to help out families with elders and kids. Thank you to UAF Mat-Su experimental farm and Deborn farm for donations.”

AC President Kyle Hill and AC Produce Category Manager Jason Hurzeler received the potato donations at AC’s warehouse in Anchorage before they were shipped to Gambell.

AC is proud to support the communities we serve and we appreciated the opportunity to work with Ashley Apangalook to deliver the potatoes to the Gambell community,” said Hill. “Thank you, UA Mat-Su and Ashley Apangalook, for giving to the Gambell community!”
