Toksook Bay, also known as Nunakauyak, was established in 1964 when many people moved from Nightmute. Although the island has been visited and inhabited for thousands of years, Toksook Bay is now one of three villages on Nelson Island. This tight-knit Yup’ik community is deeply connected to traditional subsistence activities. Fishing, hunting, and gathering remain central to daily life, with salmon and seal being key resources.
