Klawock, originally a summer fishing camp for the Tlingit people from the northern winter village of Tuxekan, has a rich history. It's known as the location of Alaska's first salmon cannery and has a thriving logging industry. Klawock also has the only airport runway on Prince of Wales Island, and with the recent addition of a cruise ship port, tourism is on the rise. The Totem Park in Klawock features 21 totem poles—one of the largest collections in Alaska—showcasing both original and replica totems from the historic village of Tuxekan. Klawock is accessible by ferry, cruise ship, or charter plane.
