Fort Yukon, located at the confluence of the Yukon and Porcupine Rivers, is a Gwich’in Athabascan community with historical roots. Established as a trading post in the 19th century, it served as a hub for fur traders and indigenous communities. The Gwich’in people continue to practice subsistence hunting and fishing, with caribou and salmon as staples. The surrounding boreal forest is home to an assortment of wildlife, making it an interesting destination for nature enthusiasts.
