ABOUT

Dillingham Store & Community

Dillingham lies in the heart of Bristol Bay at the confluence of the Nushagak and Wood Rivers. The area has been home to the Yup’ik and Athabascan peoples for generations, with a strong tradition of subsistence fishing and hunting. By the 20th century, commercial salmon fishing had become the backbone of the local economy, with Dillingham emerging as a hub for fishing, canning, and transportation. The annual Bristol Bay salmon run draws international attention, supporting both local subsistance and global markets. Today, this vibrant community honors its indigenous heritage and serves as a gateway to world-class fisheries and sport fishing lodges, attracting visitors worldwide.
